How do I capture visitor info from forms on my site in ClickMagick?

If you have an opt-in form, lead form, checkout form or any other type of form that you’re using to collect visitor information, ClickMagick can automatically capture this information and associate it with that particular visitor.

All you need to do is add vid_info: 'on', to your tracking code on any pages that have a form with user input.

The simplest way to do this is using the Website Code tool – just enable Save Visitor Information when generating your code and then copy the code to your pages.

And that’s all there is to the basic setup, which will work for most ClickMagick users.

If you’ve done this and ClickMagick doesn’t seem to be capturing the right info, you may have some type of non-standard configuration with your website forms.

Note: By default, all pre-filled form data is captured automatically. If you have the rare situation where you don’t want pre-filled data to be captured, add the line:

vid_info_prefilled: 'off',

Make sure that you use straight quotes, not curly quotes.

You’ll just need to help ClickMagick find the correct info in your forms, as described below ...

Advanced customization

ClickMagick is good at automatically finding visitor information in your web forms, but if you need to teach ClickMagick exactly where to look, you can do that too.

Open the Campaigns Website Code builder, then in the Custom Website Code builder, click on the Advanced Options menu and choose “Visitor Information”.

From here, you can enter the exact element ID, class, or name for the HTML element for each type of information in your form.

If you’re entering an HTML element ID, precede the value with a pound sign: #firstname

If you need to target the element using a class name, precede the class name with a period: .lastname

If you need to specify the element using the “name” of the element, precede the name with an exclamation point: !email

We understand that this is a bit technical, so if you need any help at all, just let us know, and we’ll be happy to take a look at your web pages and tell you exactly what to enter where.

Note: If you’re going to capture visitor info and share it with third-parties such as ClickMagick and your ad networks, you should ensure you have an appropriate Privacy Policy in place.

We will always do our best to use encryption and other technologies to ensure the customer info you send to us is safe and secure, but please remember that you're responsible for gathering any applicable consents for data collection when users visit your website or online store.

For the purposes of GDPR, you are the “data controller” and ClickMagick is simply a “data processor” acting under your direction.
