What data or tokens can I pass to the URLs I promote?

You can use the following “tokens” to pass data through your tracking links to your Primary URL or through your rotators to your rotator URLs.

This is useful for passing data to other analytics systems, your CRM or shopping cart, affiliate networks, etc.

To use a token, add it wherever you want that value to appear in the URL you’re redirecting traffic to. All tokens are case-sensitive, so use lowercase when entering them.

ClickMagick Sub-ID Tokens

You can pass up to 5 sub-ID values to your tracking links by adding them to your link using a “/” followed by the Sub-ID value. For example:

https://link-domain.com/linkSlug/subid1/subid2/...

You can then pass the sub-ID values to your link using these tokens:

[s1] - This is subid1 that you’ve added to the end of an incoming tracking or rotator link.
[s2] - This is subid2 ...
[s3] - subid3
[s4] - etc.
[s5]

There are some restrictions in the characters that you can use in a sub-ID. Please be sure to read the note at the end of this article:

ClickMagick UTM Tokens

Google’s UTM query string parameters can be passed to your tracking or rotator links using their corresponding tokens:

[utm_source]

[utm_medium]

[utm_term]

[utm_content]

[utm_campaign]

When a tracking link receives a UTM parameter, its value will be stored for later use in Postback URLs and Webhooks. The values are stored in ClickMagick’s Sub-ID 1 through Sub-ID 5 variables, and you would use the [s1]-[s5] tokens to retrieve them. For more information, read this article:

How do I use UTM parameters with ClickMagick?

Miscellaneous ClickMagick Tokens

[clickid]
   – A unique identifier assigned to every click and used with Postback URLs.
[lname]
  – The link slug used when creating the link.
[country]
  – The country the click originated from.
[ref]
  – Tracking pixel “ref” value.  Used with Webhooks.
[lid]
  – The internal link ID number.  Rarely used.

Passthrough Tokens

These values are not logged in ClickMagick and are generally only used with Google Analytics or by advanced users who know what to do with them:

[query_string] – Passes the entire query string untouched

To use these tokens, there must be data in the “query string” at the end of your incoming links. For example:

https://link-domain.com/calendar?day=25&month=1&year=2024

The “query string” is the question mark in the URL and everything that comes after it. Query strings consist of one or more name=value pairs separated by ampersands (&). You can learn all about query strings and how to modify them in this article:

What is a “query string”?

In the case of Google UTM parameters, these will typically be automatically added to the end of your tracking links once you’ve enabled them in your Google account.

Example of How to Pass Sub-ID Data to a URL

To pass one or more Sub-ID values to a URL you’re promoting, use the ClickMagick tokens above wherever you want the Sub-ID values to appear in the Primary URL you’re redirecting traffic to.

Say you’re promoting a ClickBank URL like this:

https://xxx.yyy.hop.clickbank.net

ClickBank uses the tid parameter to accept Sub-IDs, so you would add this query string to your ClickBank link:

https://xxx.yyy.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=[s1]

If you were passing a token to another ClickMagick tracking link or rotator link, you would pass the token in using the /subid the format just like you would for any other value:

https://link-domain.com/somelink/[s1]
