What data or tokens can I pass to the URLs I promote?
You can use the following “tokens” to pass data through your tracking links to your Primary URL, or through your rotators to your individual rotator URLs.
This is useful for passing data to other analytics systems, your CRM or shopping cart, affiliate networks, etc.
To use a token, just add it wherever you want that value to appear in the URL you’re redirecting traffic to. All tokens are case-sensitive, so be sure to use lower case when entering them.
ClickMagick Sub-ID Tokens
You can pass up to 5 sub-ID values to your tracking links by adding them to your link using a “/” followed by the Sub-ID value. For example:
Google’s UTM query string parameters can be passed to your tracking or rotator links using their corresponding tokens:
[utm_source]
[utm_medium]
[utm_term]
[utm_content]
[utm_campaign]
When a tracking link receives a UTM parameter, it’s value will be stored for later use in Postback URLs and Custom Postbacks. The values are stored in ClickMagick’s Sub-ID 1 through Sub-ID 5 variables and you would use the [s1]-[s5] tokens to retrieve them. For more information, read this article:
The “query string” is the question mark in the URL and everything that comes after it. Query strings consist of one or more name=value pairs separated by ampersands (&). You can learn all about query strings and how to modify them in this article:
In the case of Google UTM parameters, these will normally be added to the end of your tracking links automatically once you’ve enabled them in your Google account.
Example of How to Pass Sub-ID Data to a URL
To pass one or more Sub-ID values to a URL you’re promoting, simply use the ClickMagick tokens above wherever you want the Sub-ID values to appear in the Primary URL you’re redirecting traffic to.
Say you’re promoting a ClickBank URL like this:
https://xxx.yyy.hop.clickbank.net
ClickBank uses the tid parameter to accept Sub-IDs, so you would add this query string to your ClickBank link:
https://xxx.yyy.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=[s1]
If you were passing a token to another ClickMagick tracking link or rotator link, you would simply pass the token in using the /subid format just like you would for any other value:
https://link-domain.com/somelink/[s1]
