How do I track phone orders and other offline conversions?

If you take phone orders, accept wire transfers or accept payment in other ways offline, traditionally this has been next to impossible to track accurately. And that’s why we’re excited to announce that ClickMagick now supports tracking of phone sales and any other sales or conversions you generate offline.

Recording your offline conversions is quite simple – just select Offline Conversions in the Tools menu, enter the conversion details, and the conversion will be attributed to your Tracking Link or Campaigns Project as usual.

There is one little “catch” though ...

One of the pieces of information you need to enter when recording an offline conversion is the ClickMagick Visitor ID, and getting access to this unique identifier does require the set up and use of Cross-Device Tracking, so if you’re not already using it you will need to set that up first.

While it’s possible with Tracking Links, Cross-Device Tracking is MUCH simpler with Campaigns – so if you’re just getting things set up, you’re advertising on major ad networks like Google Ads, Facebook, and YouTube, and you want to be able to easily track offline conversions, you’ll generally want to use Campaigns.

How do I set up cross-device tracking?

Once you’ve set up Cross-Device Tracking and you’re recording each visitors’ unique Visitor ID in your autoresponder or CRM, you’re all set and ready to go.

Whenever you generate a conversion offline simply pull up the customer’s Visitor ID in your autoresponder or CRM, copy and paste it into the Offline Conversions form, enter the conversion details including the time zone the entered timestamp is in, and that’s it!

Bulk Uploading your Offline Conversions

If you prefer, you can also bulk upload your offline conversion data in batches at any time. You should upload a CSV file containing these five required columns, in this particular order:

Visitor ID or Click ID – This is the Tracking Link Click ID or Campaigns Visitor ID

Conversion – The conversion type. “a” or “action” for Actions, “e” or “engagement” for Engagements, and “s” or “sale” for sales. These values are case-insensitive.

Amount – The Sale amount in either nnn, nnn.n or nnn.nn format. Ignored if Conversion is not a sale.

Ref – An optional “ref” or reference value

Timestamp – The date and time of the sale in either unixtime, ISO 8601 or mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm format. The ISO 8601 timestamp can be appended with a “Z” to indicate the time zone is in UTC (e.g. 2021-04-17-T08:30:22Z) While not recommended, Timestamp can also be left blank in which case we’ll use the current time. Unless the time zone is identified as UTC, all timestamps without a time zone will use the time zone selected in the dropdown on the page.

No header row is required, but one is shown in the example below …

When you upload your file, ClickMagick will process all your offline conversion data and then send you right back a download with the results. Each row in your results file will show a Status of either Success, Duplicate or Error.

If a conversion was imported successfully, you’ll see the Tracking Link or Campaigns Project it was attributed to.

In the event of an error, you’ll see an error message letting you know which data needs to be fixed.
