How do I track my individual PPC Keywords?

If you’re bidding on PPC keywords you’ll generally want to track each keyword individually so you can see which keywords are making you money, and which are not.

To do this you’ll want to use the {keyword} or other similar token made available by your ad platform. For example, here are the available tokens for Google Ads, Microsoft Ads and Facebook Ads:

What are the ad network tokens I can use in my URLs?

If you’re using Campaigns you simply set the utm_term parameter to {keyword} e.g. utm_term={keyword}

When you do this, the {keyword} token will be automatically replaced with the actual keyword by the ad network when someone clicks on your ad.

If you’re using Tracking Links with your ads – for example with Facebook or Microsoft/Bing but NOT Google Ads – then you simply pass the same {keyword} token as a Sub-ID to your tracking link.

For example, let’s suppose that you’ve created a tracking link for your Microsoft/Bing ad that looks like this:[USERNAME]/bing/

To instruct Microsoft/Bing to append the exact keyword that generated the click to the end of your tracking link as a Sub-ID, you just add {keyword} to the end like this:[USERNAME]/bing/{keyword}

Once you start running traffic to this link you’ll be able to view the Sub-ID Stats report for this particular tracking link and you’ll see all of your stats broken down by keyword.

You can actually pass up to five Sub-IDs to your tracking link if you want to include more details about the click. For more details on that please see the short article below:
