ClickMagick Campaigns is a modern tracking solution that utilizes industry-standard UTM parameters added to your own URLs for tracking, and it’s meant for tracking and optimizing paid ads and your entire sales funnel. Campaigns does not use tracking links. This is sometimes called “true redirectless tracking.”
Why and When Should I Use ClickMagick Campaigns?
Most users should find that ClickMagick Campaigns are a lot easier to use as compared to using tracking links which requires you to set up various link groups and then link all of your pages together using individual tracking links.
There are no redirects or tracking links involved, which makes it a perfect solution when you want to advertise somewhere that prohibits the use of links that redirect (e.g. Instagram), or when you want to advertise on the major ad platforms where improperly set up tracking links can be problematic (e.g. Facebook and Google).
Because there are no redirects and you use only your own URLs, this also means that all ClickMagick tracking “cookies” are set on your own domain. These are considered “first-party” cookies, which are technically better than “third-party” cookies that are more often blocked by privacy-conscious consumers.
If you control your entire funnel then setting up Campaigns tracking shouldn’t take more than 5 or 10 minutes.

How Do I Get Started With ClickMagick Campaigns?
To get started with Campaigns, simply add the Campaigns tracking codes to your website, and then generate your UTM-powered links using the Campaigns URL Builder if you’re not already using UTM parameters.
Step 1 – Add the ClickMagick Campaigns Tracking Code to Your Website
The first step is to add the ClickMagick Campaigns tracking codes to your web site, which you can find by clicking on Click Tracking Code on your main Campaigns Welcome Screen under Step 1.
There are two types of ClickMagick Campaigns tracking code ...
The Click Tracking Code should be added to your landing pages. This is the page or pages that a user lands on after clicking your ad or promotional link.
The Conversion Tracking Code should be added to your “goal” or “thank you” pages.
These are the pages in your funnel that a user reaches after taking a specific action that you want to track e.g. opting-in, registering for a webinar, or making a purchase.
Choose the type of goal you want to track, and we highly recommend adding the optional “Ref” value which is simply a descriptive word to help distinguish this conversion goal from other conversion goals you might have.

We recommend adding your Click Tracking and Conversion Tracking code just before the </head> tag of your pages, since this will ensure accurate tracking even if a page is closed before being fully loaded.
Note: To track properly, you need to have Click Tracking code on your landing page and Conversion Tracking code on later pages. If you have a goal set on your landing page, both the click and the goal will be ignored, unless you’re using an “internal” click using utm_source=internal which is for email links and other special cases.
Step 2 – Add UTM Tracking Parameters to Your URLs
The only other thing you need to do is start adding UTM tracking parameters to the URLs you want to promote or advertise, if you’re not already doing so. We’ve made this super easy using our intelligent URL Builder tool (found in the same menu).
Using the URL Builder you can quickly and easily create all the UTM-powered tracking links that you need, and the URL Builder will even remember your commonly used UTM values to reduce data entry and possible typos.
Step 3 – Use Your Newly-Generated URLs In Your Ads or Promotions
Once you create a UTM-powered link using the URL Builder you have two options …
If you want to use it to track a paid ad on Facebook, Google Ads, Bing or anywhere else where redirecting tracking links are problematic, you’ll want to simply copy the generated URL and paste it right into your ad network as explained in our other articles on Facebook, Google Ads and/or Bing.

There’s no need to use standard tracking links with paid ads, and doing so can cause unnecessary problems.
On the other hand, if you need to track social media posts, links in your emails or anything else where you prefer to use shorter “prettier” links, you also have the option in the URL Builder to instantly create a short tracking link for your longer UTM-powered URL with just a few clicks. These will appear in a special link group called “Campaigns Short Links” on your main tracking link dashboard.
Either way, as soon as the first click comes in to your UTM-powered URL a new Campaigns Project will be created in ClickMagick and you’ll be off to the races!

ClickMagick Tracking Links are the most basic form of tracking available. A tracking link is just that – a link that, when clicked on, will redirect people to a URL of your choice and then “track" that click.
Why and When Should I Use ClickMagick Tracking Links?
If you’re doing any sort of online marketing and you have your own landing page, website or sales funnel then you’ll want to use ClickMagick Campaigns as your primary tracking method.
Tracking Links however can be used for “simple” tracking if you just want to track the traffic to a single page, or you want to track very specific buttons or links on your website for example.
Of course a tracking link does involve some redirects, so you will want to keep that in mind when promoting on paid ad networks. For example Google is very strict with redirects (which is why we suggest using Campaigns when promoting on Google Ads).
Other than that, it shouldn’t take you more than a few minutes to set up a basic tracking link. Just follow the steps below and you’ll be up and running in no time.
How Do I Set Up a Tracking Link?
Setting up a tracking link is quick, easy, and even fun!
To set up a very basic tracking link go to the Links page and click on the button that says “Create a New Link”.
From there all you need to do to create a fully functioning tracking link is to enter the “Primary URL,” which is the URL you want users to be redirected to when they click on your tracking link:
You can leave all the other settings blank and the system will automatically generate a Link Name and Link Slug for you by randomly choosing a combination of letters and numbers, like this:
By promoting this tracking link, your clicks will first come to ClickMagick where they can recorded, then be automatically redirected to the Primary URL.
In the link above, the /16sd3r part is called a “link slug” (or “rotator link slug” if you’re creating a rotator link), and it will be created automatically if you don’t explicitly enter one.
More often than not, you’ll probably want to choose a meaningful link slug, such as these:
The link slug must be between 4 and 20 characters and can only use letters, numbers, and hyphens.
There are tons of additional settings and features when setting up links, but creating a basic link is as simple as entering the Primary URL you want users redirected to, and optionally entering the link slug if you don’t want it to be randomly generated.
Caution: When you create a link, you’ll be asked for both a “friendly” Link Name and for a Link Slug. Both of these must be unique or you will get an error message about trying to create a duplicate entry. If you get this error message, just rename either the friendly Link Name or the link slug.
How Do I Set Up a Custom Tracking Domain?
While you were creating your tracking link, you may have noticed that you had the option to select a custom tracking domain.
If you want to use a custom domain for branding purposes you can easily set that up with ClickMagick.
Also, if you’re planning to use tracking links on Facebook or in email messages, then you need to use a custom tracking domain.
Setting up a custom tracking domain is a one-time setup and is relatively simple to do. Just follow the steps in this article:
A Rotator is a click delivery tool that takes incoming clicks and sends them to one or more URLs based on the type of Rotator it is.
Why and When Should I Use ClickMagick Rotators?
Rotators are typically used to distribute clicks to people who have bought traffic from you.
Some online trainers explain the concept of “split testing” using the term “rotator” for simplicity, but that is inaccurate and causes confusion. For an explanation of the difference between split testing and using rotators, read this article:
Lastly, you have to enter the “Backup URL,” which is the URL to which clicks are sent to if there are no eligible rotator URLs based on your settings.
Now all you have to do is just add some URLs to your rotator. To do that, click on the wrench icon to the right of your rotator and click on “Add URLs”:
Just enter that new rotator URL, it’s name, and status to either “Active”, “Paused” or “Archived”, and hit “Add Rotator URL”!
Keep on repeating this step and adding new URLs as needed for your rotator.
